Description | There are many sacred mountains and ovoos in the land of Mongolia. In this article, the author will tell only about the nationally worshipped mountains such as Burkhan Khaldun, Bogd Khan, and Otgontenger. These sacred mountains were worshipped in the period of shamanism by the shamans and later followed by Buddism by lamas (monks). The main feature of the nationally worshipped mountains is that in the ritual, only statesmen (high-ranking officials) are allowed to participate. The rituals of the above-mentioned sacred mountains became a national event jointly organized by the government and religions to venerate the khangai, earth the deities (savdag). |
