Description | Traditional Orteke puppet performance is still very popular with Kazakhs and tourists. For the last two centuries it was considered as the amusing performance for children and low-income citizens and rural inhabitants. The musicians had to be trained to manipulate 1-3 marionette while playing the rythmic music with the same hands. However, the symbols of Orteke were reflected at the ancient petroglyphs and mentioned in the folklore epics. The next studies are needed to identify social functions of Orteke in ancient and medieval periods, and how we meet with it nowadays. |
