Description | In the article on the basis of data from historiography, the Middle Ages sources, and rare exhibits of the museum’s collections, it has been analyzed the form and the semantics of flags’ finials in the period of the medieval Kazakh rulers. According to the author, the prototype of a number of finials, known to us from the images on the Middle Age Persian miniatures, is the hammy image of a hunting or predatory bird. It has been suggested about the archaic image of the bird in the material culture of ancient and the Middle Age population of Central Asia and its direct connection with the religious beliefs of the Turks. In particular, in the image of the bird on flags’ finials the nomads, apparently, depicted a female goddess – Umai. |
