Description
-
The article is devoted to a complex archaeological, historical, cultural, trasological, iconographic analysis, and semantic-ethnic interpretation of the unique anthropomorphic image on a ceramic jug for water and food, which was found at Ushbastobe sites I-IV centuries (valley of the Ugam river, South Kazakhstan). Different versions of semantic interpretation of the image are given

the key of them is that it is Farn-Pharn, a tribal (clan, home) deity (cult) with a lot of incarnations (life wellbeing, health, wealth, happiness, talisman against evil forces, etc.). Its iconographic sources are related to the traditions of fine art and religious beliefs of the ancient ethnic groups of Eurasia in the late Iron Age and bear clear autochthonous features inherent in the settled agricultural population of the local mountain region. In ethno-cultural terms, the anthropomorphic image in the proposed semantic-functional version (Farn-Pharn) is associated with the state of Kangyuy (Kantszyuy), as well as a number of Iranian-speaking tribes of the Scythian-Saka-Sarmatian world, where this cult was widespread in ancient times.
